AAAE ACE Operations Module 3 Practice Exam

What is the role of official communications during an airport incident and which channels are typically used?

Provide targeted updates only to internal staff during an incident.

Rely exclusively on press conferences for all communications.

Withhold all incident information until the investigation is complete.

Use a mix of channels including public address, social media, NOTAMs, official briefings, and interagency updates to inform staff, tenants, media, and the public.

During an airport incident, the goal of official communications is to inform all affected groups quickly, accurately, and consistently through multiple channels. A mix of methods ensures every audience gets timely updates: public address systems reach on-site staff and tenants; social media provides rapid, broad reach to the public; NOTAMs communicate important operational changes to the aviation community; official briefings serve the media and key stakeholders with clear, controlled information; and interagency updates align messages with partner agencies to prevent confusion. This comprehensive approach supports safety, trust, and smooth coordination across operations and authorities.

Limiting updates to internal staff, relying only on press conferences, or withholding information until a later stage can leave others uninformed, create rumors, and hinder safety and coordination.
